Writing Sequences

When students begin creative writing, one technique they learn is how to organize their thoughts sequentially.  They will choose their topic and begin with a topic sentence.  Then they will write their narrative in the order that the events occurred, using words such as first, second, third, next, then, and finally.  In their last paragraph or sentence, they will conclude their narrative with a summary of what they have written.

 Teaching Tip

Tip for parents: Make sure your child has a good breakfast before school each day. A nutritious breakfast can include milk, juice, fruit, whole grain bread and cereal, eggs or other protein. Avoid sugar, white flour, and fats as much as possible. Good nutrition helps the brain work better.
