"Helping children grow through learning!"

Use beach balls to teach and have fun at the same time. You can write on the ball with permanent marker, or you can use the ball as it is, by throwing it to a child and letting the child throw it back after answering a question correctly.

To program your own beachball game, use a permanent marker and on each separate colored section of the ball, write an addition fact, a subtraction fact, multiplication or division fact, or whatever math skill your child is practicing. You can practice reading and phonics by writing a letter or combination of letters in each space . Write sight words or vocabulary words, states or capitals. The possibilities are only limited by your imagination.

To play, toss the ball to your child or student. The problems or questions under their fingers are the ones the child is to answer. If it is a word or sound that is written, the child should say the word or the sound of the letter or letters. If it is a vocabulary word, the child can give the meaning , part of speech, or synonym. The child then tosses the ball to you or another child , and the process is repeated.

Another game is to use any kind of ball. Toss it to the child, ask a math fact, vocabulary word, spelling word, or suitable question. When the child answers correctly, the ball can be tossed to you or to another child.

An important rule for this game is that the ball should be tossed gently. Some children try to throw the ball so that the other person is unable to catch it. This slows down the game because of the time it takes to chase the ball! If you are playing indoors, a gentle toss is especially necessary, for obvious reasons.
